Fade out

As we had no dialogue in our main task, I've decided to write the script more as stage directions and a play by play of what is happening as you watch it. We originally did have sounds in main task but as we did not use professional actors, they couldn't take it seriously and we had to cut the sound out, also looking at other peoples work from previous years we thought that sound can sometimes cheapen the look of a film and make it amateur and not professional.

Location

AS a location we decided to change our plan as we tested some shots outside and the lighting wasn't right so therefore we decided to film inside in the corridor where there was a window on one side to natural light was let in. We made sure we were filming during day light so that the natural light was able to come in and not make the shots look too dark. Also the reason why we chose the film here was to try and make it as authentic as possible as the corridor made it clear that we were filming in a school.
This is where we shot the tilt, up down shots of each character, we chose here as it was a blank canvas and the places we chose originally didn't work due to many things such as lighting, not being free and we needed an encloses space that the characters could walk around in their costumes and not offend or get in the way of anyone.

Inspirations to our Main Task

These were some of the inspirations from youtube that we have used to help us with our filming and editing process. I found looking on youtube for films similar to ours and gaining ideas from them and comparing them helped us a lot. I felt like it open our minds to what was possible and which was totally unreasonable, by watching several of the marvel and superhero like films it gave us inspiration for what to do for our main task.

Sound and Foley research

Foley Artist: Foley is the reproduction of everyday sounds for use in film making. hese reproduced sounds can be anything from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass. The best foley art is so well integrated into a film that it goes unnoticed by the audience. It helps to create a sense of reality within a scene. Without these crucial background noises, movies feel unnaturally quiet and uncomfortable. Foley artists look to recreate the realistic ambient sounds that the film portrays. The props and sets of a film do not react the same way acoustically as their real life counterparts. Sound within the film industry: A sound film is a motion picture with synchronized sound, or sound technologically coupled to image, instead of a silent film. Reliable synchronization was difficult to achieve with the early sound-on-disc systems, and amplification and recording quality were also inadequate.

his is the music we used at the beginning of The Package, our preliminary production. We felt that it was perfect for our film because it is eery and sinister, which how we wanted to present Kyle's character.

Prop List & Shot list

The main props we used for our main task was the out fits, as it was a super hero film we tried to use as many props as we had lying around and that we could to make to make it looks the best it could possibly be.
These are some of the masks we used for our actors, different colors were tried to represent each side with the goodies and the badies. The one covered it caution tape was a continuous theme we tried to keep with the 'supergood' having them all having a certain thing with the tape on it to show a sign of that they were united and together as one.
This outfit was for 'Blue bolt' played by Sophie Marie Clegg, her character was one of the goodies and we used red lipstick to try and insinuate her feminine side and red lipstick can also try to represent sexuality, her outfit consisted of the 'blue bolt' top which we thought tied in well for her name and small gold shorts again quite a fun color choice. This outfit was trying to represent bright, pure look, her makeup was kept very subtle and pure trying to portray her innocence but with the red lipstick contrasting this maybe showing a different side to her.
This outfit was for 'Black ice' who was played by Bella, we tried to keep it very simple and dark and mysterious, all makeup used was black and her hair being dark added to this to give it a negative effect. The caution tape appears again with one of the badies going across her body and the tight leotard showed a harsh, stern effect which was meant to represent that she would take no messing and was serious in her appearance.
This was the props we used for 'Beefinator' who was played by Kyle the outfit was kept very simple with no top so he was shirtless, showing his torso which was muscly to show his strength as one of the badies, again the mask has caution tape on it which represents he is in the 'bad' team, the black tights we just kept simple to try and look skin tight and make him look as muscly as possible.
Alex Lister played the intimidator and his outfit was very similar to Kyle's just not including the mask but instead of the mask he had the caution tape round his wrists, again to show off his body we decided to go with no top this insinuated his muscly torso and made him and Kyle look tough together, representing strength with badies.
Lastly Alex Scholes who played the 'golden man' we decided to keep the props for his outfit again quite bright and make him stick out as he was the leader of the good team, with bright red as the cape and gold tights this is quite a unique look. In our survey it was shown that red is mostly associated with goodies so that why we bring in the red in his cape and with Sophie's lipstick to try and get a common theme.

16-04-2012 Evaluation

Evaulation Final This is question 7 7. Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product? I feel that I have leant a lot from doing the preliminary task. At the time when editing the preliminary idea I think our group felt like we had done a good job. This may have been because we hadn’t experienced any other form of filming or editing. Whilst we were filming our main task I think we understood that it was going to be a lot harder than we thought, but we had planned it before which made it run smoothly. I feel that we didn’t really have enough time to plan for our preliminary project and went into it not really knowing what was involved, we planned our main project with costumes, props and story boards so we knew exactly what we had to do. We even took test pictures in the locations we may use to make sure lighting was ok and availability to the area. So I think we prepared more for it and knew how long it was going to take us to edit it all and I feel that our skills and knowledge over this period of time improved so our final piece was far better than our preliminary.

7-3-12 1st day of filming (Bella & Soph)

This was our first day of filming and we started off by filming Sophie who is one of our super heros, we had prepared all the costumes before and made sure everything was ready for filming. In our group we tried to get together as many outfits as possible so we didn't have to buy the. We all contributed to bringing in different things for the costumes and in the end managed to sort them all out. Sophie wore black tight an electric blue top with high heels and red lipstick, we thought this portrayed her character and made her look heroic and innocent. We chose to film in a free period where there was as less people around as possible but we did get some people walking past but we had to work around it. After filming Sophie we filmed Bella and Sophie with their close up we tried to make Bellas make up look dark and more evil using dark colours and

9/03/12 Still shots of Story board

These are still shots of our story board, where we have tried to re create the film in stills to try and check lighting and that the location was correct. We realized that some places may be to dark or inappropriate to film in and then we found different places that fitted the criteria more.

9/03/12 Story Board for main idea

Here is the step by step story board for our main idea. Its a super hero film which is about a group of 3 goodies and 3 badies which try and beat each other in the struggle of school life.

6-3-12 Character Designs

These are our designs for our characters. We tried to make the goodies in bright colour which would catch the audience eyes and then as a contrast put the badies in dark, evil colours to show a real difference between the two.

6-3-12 Mood Board

Here we have made a mood board for our title sequence, this includes quite bright pictures and super hero theme with mask and they way the shampoo bottle are standing that is how we see the super heros standing.

27-2-12 Evaluation

Evaluation Our idea We thought of our idea quite quickly, we were given the name ‘the package’ and straight away our group cam e up with many different ideas. We decided on doing a package on a train and it potentially being a bomb but the audience don’t see this directly so it leaves it up to them to decide what it was. We filmed it on the southern eastern service train to Victoria then back to Orpington. The plot of our clip was that a scary look male character was seen with a package getting on a train looking suspicious and he sits next to a innocent, attractive female character who also has the same package, as she leaves the train in a rush the packages get switched and she ends up leaving with his package. He notices as she is leaving the train and running along the platform, however it’s to late and the train has already left the station, in his panic he opens the package and realises it’s not the right one. This leaves suspense for the audience Filming the idea We hadn’t thought how hard it was going to be to film, we thought maybe we were going to film in on a tube. Then as we thought harder about it we realised that it may be quite hard as tubes are normally fairly busy and also didn’t want to draw attention to filming a bomb scene as some tourists may of got confused and scared. So we decided to stick to a train as they are less busy and we could film it in a more private environment. We felt the need to film a lot of footage so then later we could edit the bits we didn’t need as we felt it would benefit us from having too much footage than not enough. We knew that the clip had to consist of many different camera shots and angles we tried to demonstrate as many as we could and that we were able to include. For example shot reverse shot was almost impossible to film as there was so dialogue in our clip so we soon realised that we couldn’t do some but we tried to do as many as we could. Throughout our filming we were understood that some shots wouldn’t work with each other and it had to flow as much as possible. Editing the idea As soon as we started editing we came across problems in the shots we did, we had made a clip list which made things a lot easier as we knew what each shot was and it had its own number. However when we were putting clips together it soon became addressed that we were using shots that had not been filmed in order and some of the parts didn’t fit in with each other. We were also aware that when we wanted to include some shots the train was travelling in a different direction and this became a problem because it made the shots inconsistent. Also background of where the train was situated was an issue as again it wasn’t filmed in order therefore the station we were currently at didn’t match the one before. Also in certain scenes ‘Anna’ the female character has gloves on and we had to make sure that she didn’t have the gloves on before and made sure she had them on after so it matched. We also came across the fact that if we had longer, the clip would be more accurate and flow more but we had to consider that the time frame we did have had to include everything we needed. What went well? We worked well as a group and all had a part to play if it wasn’t filming then it was adding ideas and input to make it as good as it could possibly be. We all contributed in the filming part as some of us in the group could see things that others cant and we cooperated enough to get our views across and maybe suggest constructive criticism to improve the footage. The fact that we numbered each shot made it easier to locate them as we knew which ones were what other wise it could of got confusing and muddled up. Even better if? If we were to redo the filing and editing again I think different factors would come into it as we have now experienced it once and knew what went wrong and maybe what we could imp rives next time. I think we would try and make it as constant as possible to make it flow more. As much for a first time we tried our best but we have never experienced filming before and went into a bit fast, next time we would maybe plan ahead more and create a more detailed story board that had different camera shot and angles in so we knew exactly what we were doing when we got there.

20/02/12 Survey

We created a survey of questions asking the audience about what they preferred in the media and about there favorite films and things they liked and disliked.

Tuesday 7 February 2012

7/2/12 Finished editing

Today we finished editing and tidied up our preliminary idea so it flowed more and ran smoothly. Whilst editing we soon realized that some shots didn't fit in with each other maybe we should of shot more scenes when we were shooting the rest of it

Monday 6 February 2012

3/2/12 25 word pitch

We created a 25 word pitch and then animated it by adding a comic effect to it and using different fonts to try and make the 'supergood' look happy and good and the 'superbad' look more evil. The colours we used were to try and portray the two contrast sides.

30-1-12 Staring editing and Mood Board

We started to upload our footage onto the computers from the camera. Also we started to put together a mood board and a 25 word pitch to inform the audience about what our film is going to be about. When making the mood board we tried to be abstract in the images and pictures we used to it wasn't just the normal and so it was slightly different. The images we collected represented in some way what our film was about and different idea that suggested feeling and emotions that the audience might get whilst watching it.

28/1/12 Filmed 'The Package'

Our group met and filmed all the scenes we needed to for our package idea. We met and filmed on a train and several stations, whilst filming we realized how hard it was to film from different angles and try to include all the shots. Considering the scene only had to be a minute long it took a good 2-4 hours to film all the different shots so then later on we could edit them so it would flow. After we got all the different angles and shots that we wanted we then started preparing to edit.

23/01/12 Writing of essay for title sequences

We researched title sequences that had been uploaded to YouTube on G321 this helped us understand what is expected of us and what our final piece has to look like. It also made clear what not to do and what doesn't look good and we then understood that it may be harder than we first originally thought.   With my research i did on title sequences i then planned my essay on comparing them and throughout the essay i have looked at different genres and said which things indicate different genres, also you can tell what might happen in the rest of the film. I have analyzed them against each other and said how they differ.

Monday 23 January 2012

23-1-12 Researched title sequences

I researched 4 title sequences from a film and compared them against each other. When looking at different title sequences i tried to look at different genres as some have different things added to try and create different effects.

18/01/12 Updated story board

We up dated our story board and changed our idea slightly we made it more detailed and clearer on what our package will look like.

17-1-12 Initial Idea

Rough Story Board
Our group thought of an initial idea for our package and started drawing a rough story board. This idea wasn't final as we thought that we might have to change it but it was a start. We worked as a group to get our first idea, there was a few we had it mind  but decided to do this as our first idea.
